THE Household SUPPORT FUND

This winter, the household support fund is available to provide short term financial support to residents struggling to buy food or pay household bills. More information on the fund can be found here or on this poster. Individuals can apply directly to the fund by filling out this online form or calling 0345 045 5219.

Free School Meals (County council)

The Department for Education are advising  each school to make a decision regarding serving takeaway meals or issuing supermarket vouchers to pupils, depending on their available facilities. Schools from Cambridge Academic Partnership are giving out supermarket vouchers through the post (£20 credits available). We advise you to contact your school for further information. Some schools are covering holiday periods with vouchers.

Cambridge & District Citizens Advice

Face to face appointments and drop-ins at all centres have been suspended until further notice. If you need a Foodbank Voucher call their Cambridge Adviceline: 0344 848 7979 which is open 9:00am - 5:00pm Monday to Friday or email via Email for Advice. They can only do text referrals which do not involve them having to print a paper voucher.

Cambridgeshire Local Assistant Scheme (CLAS)

Supporting families and individuals by offering advice on how to make their money go further, or to help them move on from a difficult situation. Offer includes vouchers for those who don’t have enough money for food, clothing or fuel, access to new white goods and recycled goods and furniture. Offices are open Monday - Friday, except on Bank Holidays. For information on the scheme and to check eligibility see here.

 

CambRidge United community trust

Cambridge United Community Trust have cancelled all their community events at the stadium, including the following: Seniors' Lunches, Senior’s Afternoon Teas, Holiday/Community Lunches.

As part of Cambridge United's Forever United Scheme, they are providing FRIENDLY CHAT, ONLINE ACTIVITIES, PRACTICAL SUPPORT for Cambridge residents over 70 (shopping, picking up prescriptions or any other every day needs).

To sign up, give them a call on 01223 632 129 (Mon-Fri: 10am-4pm) or fill out their online form.

Cambridge Ethnic Community Forum

Organising information and resources on CECF Facebook page including important information on COVID-19 in over 20 community languages. Please find resources at this link.

CECF provide support for a range of different ethnic communities affected by Covid-19 including:

  • Culturally appropriate emergency food provision in partnership with the Karim Foundation.

  • Shop vouchers for food and other essential items.

  • Foodbank food e-vouchers and making referrals to Fairbite (although there is a waiting list for this service).

  • Foodbank fuel vouchers for those with prepaid meters.

  • Small fuel grants.

  • Cambridgeshire Local Assistance Scheme (CLAS) assistance for essential items.

For help individuals or families in need can phone or leave a message on 01223 655241, which is checked regularly.

red hen project

The Red Hen Project is using a grant from Cambridgeshire Community Foundation to provide help and support to their families in need. From fresh fruit and vegetables to arts and craft materials they are working hard to ensure that children can be fed, clothed, washed and entertained safely. Their community based family workers are on hand for parents and carers with help, advice, support and encouragement – over the phone and via video chat when available. Their Facebook page is a good source of ideas and you can contact their family workers through this route or via getsupport@redhenproject.org. They are now holding some activities face-to-face again as well as online sessions. For more information about in person and online activities and how to book a space check their Facebook page.

Haymaker’s Pub in Chesterton is a drop off point for any donations of resources for the Red Hen Project. Please call or text Liz on 07899 765523 if you have resources to donate.

 

WINTERCOMFORT

Wintercomfort is a support hub for those who are homeless or at risk of losing their home in Cambridge. They are open 9am to 1pm everyday with individual appointments between 2pm and 3pm.

Please note that you should only phone them if you are homeless and in need of support.

To get support, you can register yourself (or on behalf of someone else) if you have a medical condition which makes you extremely vulnerable to COVID-19, for example, priority access to supermarket deliveries.

Fairbite: An initiative run by Cambridge City Foodbank. Fairbite is a food club intended for people and families that are struggling to pay their food bills due to low income or unexpected problems, you need to be a member and pay a membership fee to use it.
