Cambridge Market Food Stalls Still Open For Business
Food stalls in the market in central Cambridge are still open for business and traders are keen to let their customers know that they can still buy a wide range of fresh food there. Some stalls have reorganised to enable social distancing and many traders are accepting contactless payments. There are no crowds, only short queues and some great produce, some of it seasonal and local.
At least three fruit and vegetable stalls are there from Tuesday to Saturday, one on Monday. For those who can’t currently get to the market, G and M’s are offering home deliveries.
Full Circle, whose products include pulses, pasta, rice and nuts currently available in sustainable paper bags, have closed their market stall but are operating from their shop at 9 Norfolk St.
Emerald Foods provide pulses, nuts, dried fruit, coffee beans and loose leaf teas. The stall operates from Tuesday to Saturday and is also offering to post orders or have them delivered. To get in contact: 07899 990830/07810 540137; emeraldfoods@rocketmail.com.
Leigh, the Cambridge Fishmonger, and the Cheese Stall both remain open for business.
Roberto's Deli is at the market six days a week selling pasta, lasagna pasta sheets, cheeses, olives, fresh pesto and cured meats.
Most of the week The Earth's Crust is at the market, selling breads and other baked produce.
The butchers are available on Wednesday and Saturday. Camcattle and Camlamb offer a delivery service for orders above £25.
Martin at Cyclesmith is there from Tuesday to Saturday for bike repairs.
Since the Middle Ages Cambridge’s market has been the heart of the city. Before the Fens were drained, boats sailed from the port of King’s Lynn to Cambridge carrying fish, wine, salt and other delicacies to the docks along the river. Let’s honour this long trading tradition by continuing to shop there.
Many thanks to the Madingley Road Area Residents Association who supplied much of this information.
