CSF is on the move!
At the start of the pandemic CSF worked with the Food Poverty Alliance, Cambridge City Council and mutual aid groups to facilitate the beginnings of the eight food hubs in the city and a distribution centre based at Buchan Street Neighbourhood Centre. While we have come a long way since then, we are still committed to the vision of a thriving community kitchen and distribution centre.
With financial support from Cambridge City Council put in place pre-pandemic and a whole lot of experience of running things since, we are ready to take the next step of our journey. Working with St Philip's Church on Mill Road we will work to turn the kitchen based at the old Cornerstone Cafe into a thriving community asset.
We will be developing a surplus catering enterprise which will raise funds for our work on food inequality. We will also be working with the Church to facilitate a warm and welcoming space this coming winter, as well as piloting a model we call the Good Food Neighbourhood.
This is a scheme that brings people together in a neighbourhood to talk about, plan for, socialise over and work on local community-led food projects such as growing or cooking together.
We’ll be moving our distribution centre to Barnwell from where we’ll continue to deliver surplus, donated food and fresh produce to the city food hubs and organisations who are doing the fantastic frontline work of making sure people get fed. We will also continue to provide cooked food for the Holiday Lunch programme and other citywide programmes.
