Do you want to help tackle food poverty through education, promote access to affordable, sustainable food through skillsharing, and help build community through shared meals? Then why not volunteer as a 'cookery buddy' at our Batch Cook Club!
Dates: Wednesday 15th and Wednesday 22nd October
Time: 10am-1pm
Venue: Abbey Hall, East Barnwell Community Centre
These sessions are designed to support low income families in the Abbey ward to learn cookery skills, save time and money, and connect with new friends in the community. At each session participants are supported to cook new recipes in bulk, share a meal together, and take home spare portions to share with family and friends.
We are seeking volunteers who can use their skills and enthusiasm to help us build a supportive and welcoming environment for participants. You don't need to have any formal cooking experience, just a passion for tackling food injustice and building community through mutual aid. By volunteering you'll learn invaluable peer support skills while reaping the benefits of cooking and eating together with new friends.
As a cookery buddy you'll help set up and pack down cooking sessions, support participants with tasks such as chopping, peeling, and stirring as they prepare simple, nutritious meals, and contribute to creating a warm, sociable atmosphere. We'll provide all the briefing and support you need to feel confident and have a great time in this role!
