Duncan Catchpole, treasurer of CSF, presented the silver award to the catering manager Terry Hope.
The Cambridge ARU catering service have received the silver standard business award for their efforts towards sustainability. They provide around 600 lunches every weekday during term time and cook seasonal menus using fresh, locally sourced vegetables.
They were also awarded the Food Made Good Award earlier in 2016 for championing sustainable food and hold a number of sustainable food accreditations. They are Vegetarian Society approved, have the Good Egg Award for serving nothing but free range eggs, and they are now serving more vegan meals at the request of the Vegan Society.
The fish they serve is MSC certified and they mainly serve Rainforest Alliance (rainforest-friendly, organic and fair trade) coffee, with their hospitality coffee fair trade too. Through providing Rainforest Alliance coffee and tea, they have saved 94.5 acres of rainforest since 2008, in partnership with The Nairobi Coffee and Tea Co. Ltd, and Coolearth. Anglia Ruskin is a FairTrade University.
Terry Hope, catering manager, upon receiving the award said that “Anglia Ruskin University catering service is very proud to receive this award. We will continue to improve our sustainable food purchasing by working with our suppliers and target ourselves to gain the gold award in the future”.
