Greater Cambridge Local Plan - get involved and share your views!
The Greater Cambridge Local Plan is a community driven conversation that will shape how you live, work and play in the areas of Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire over the next two decades and beyond. It is the first step towards forming a Local Plan that creates positive change and is your opportunity to voice your opinions, interests and concerns.
THE BIG THEMES
Climate change – how the plan should contribute to achieving net zero carbon, and the mitigation and adaptation measures that should be required through developments.
Biodiversity and green spaces – how the plan can contribute to the Councils’ ‘doubling nature’ vision, the improvement of existing green spaces and the creation of more.
Wellbeing and social inclusion – how the plan can help spread the benefits of growth, helping to create healthy and inclusive communities.
Great places – how the plan can protect what is already great about the area, and design new developments to create special places and spaces.
Jobs – how the plan will identify the number and type of jobs that should be planned for, and find appropriate sites for business growth. Also how the plan provides flexibility so that if this ambitious economic growth is achieved, it is accompanied by the homes and infrastructure to support it.
Homes – how the plan will support ambitious economic growth with new homes and infrastructure, considering how many new homes are required to meet the needs of our communities, what types of housing are needed and where they should be built.
Infrastructure – how the plan should support planned housing and jobs with services and facilities in a sustainable manner.
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
First things first, the Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council want you to answer a series of questions throughout the Local Plan pages. Answer as many or few as you like: all your views will be helpful. You can also flag any other issues you think they should be considering which are not covered elsewhere.
It’s essential that all sections of the community have their say, whether that be individuals, groups, businesses, academic institutions or stakeholders of any kind, as the Local Plan will affect everyone in the Greater Cambridge area. The Councils particularly want to hear from stakeholders that aren’t usually heard in the planning process – young people, people from diverse backgrounds, people from less prosperous parts of the area, and those who usually find it difficult to get involved for different reasons.
The First Conversation material will be accessible to everyone online as well as in printed format. You can also engage in the conversation via:
a roadshow around the local area, including shopping centres, schools and community centres, to involve in the dialogue.
social media and online videos.
local TV, radio, Council magazines, and news media.
leaders from diverse communities.
other parts of the Councils who will be encouraging everyone to get involved.
