Grow your Own

Get back in touch with the roots of our food systems by growing your own produce! Growing your own food plays a key role in building a resilient and sustainable local food system. There are many benefits, personal and environmental, to why you should exercise your green fingers, whether you have a spare bit of ground for a vegetable patch, or simply some space on your windowsill to grow some herbs!

Growing throughout the year helps you to notice even the smallest changes to the seasons, and can be a gateway to help us not only reconnect with nature, but also enable people, nature and local food systems to thrive together. Alongside expanding your skill set, growing your own food puts you in control of how and what you grow, such as using organic practices or wildlife friendly crops and methods. It can also help cut your carbon footprint by reducing the energy that goes into vegetable transportation and storage since your veggies are grown as close to home as possible, enabling you to eat the seasons!

It can also be an opportunity to connect with your local community - Cambridge and the surrounding area has a thriving community growing culture, with many groups and initiatives open to new growing enthusiasts wishing to expand their skill set.
