Healthy Start is a government scheme, which Cambridge Sustainable Food helps to promote locally.

WHAT IS IT

Healthy Start is a scheme run by the government. If you are pregnant or have a child under four years old and are in receipt of benefits, then you could be entitled to vouchers for certain healthy foods, milk and vitamins to help keep you and your family well-fed.

Only 54% of eligible families in Cambridge are claiming vouchers which have a value of over £1200 per child from birth to age four.

MISSION

Healthy Start forms an important part of our food justice work. We know that for many children in Cambridge, these vouchers are the best way to ensure they receive the best possible start to life.

To increase uptake of Healthy Start in Cambridge, we are promoting the Healthy Start scheme and working with health and community professionals to ensure all women who are pregnant or have young children know about Healthy Start, and are signed up straight away if they are eligible.
