CSF's Upcoming Projects
Over the course of 2020/21, CSF has some very exciting projects for Cambridge and beyond! Here's a summary:
The City Council is continuing to support the work of the Food Poverty Alliance. Work in 2020/21 will focus on facilitating the delivery of the Action Plan, developing a funding strategy and delivering training for frontline workers about food poverty issues and emergency food access, amongst other initiatives.
With funding from Food Power, we aim to engage more people who could benefit from classes, workshops and stalls and better access to fresh fruit and veg. As well as strengthening the Holiday Lunches programme in the city, we will also trial a ‘social supermarket veg box scheme’ whereby local people on low incomes can receive a subsidised box of delicious veg straight to their door. Our Thyme to Cook and Holiday Lunch programmes will also continue with funding from the City Council, engaging families in healthy cooking skills and supporting them to cook from scratch.
Continuing from our previous Cambridgeshire Community Foundation funded project, this year we’re focusing on providing training, information and resources on Healthy Start for local health professionals, community leaders and other relevant local organisations/groups. Through this, we aim to reach more people who are eligible for Healthy Start and engage them as soon as possible, enabling them to gain maximum benefit from Healthy Start support.
Following the success of last year’s Veg Cities campaign, this year we will be working with local businesses to increase the availability and consumption of local and seasonal veg through partnership working, a new awards scheme and a meet the supplier event.
The 'Food for Future' campaign addresses the need to rapidly reduce food-related greenhouse gas emissions to avert climate change. Through South Cambridgeshire District Council's Zero Carbon Communities fund, we will deliver events, talks and stalls to tackle the climate challenge, helping people to take action to reduce their own food-related emissions.
And last but definitely not least, after achieving the Sustainable Food Cities bronze award, we're going for Silver! CSF has secured funding from Sustainable Food Cities Network to expand and our deepen our work in Cambridge in pursuit of our aim to achieve silver.
